Selected from the minutes of Sligo County Council ordinary meeting for September 2008 relating to the Strandhill area :
18. CARK PARKING AT STRANDHILL;
Proposed by Councillor D. Healy McGowan
Seconded by Councillor A. Higgins“That the proposed charging on car parking at Strandhill under the proposed Bye-Laws be abolishedâ€.
26. STRANDHILL PARKING BYE LAWS 2008;
Proposed by Councillor D. Bree
Seconded by Councillor S. MacManus“That Bye-Laws 4,5,6,7 and 8 be deleted from the Draft ‘Strandhill Parking Bye-Laws 2008â€.
29. PARKING PLACE DRAFT BYE LAWS 2008;
Proposed by Councillor S. MacManus
Seconded by Councillor D. Bree“That Sligo Co. Council defers taking any decision on any part of the proposed Parking Places Draft Bye-Laws 2008 in relation to Strandhill until such time as local organisations bring forward possible proposals on how to address the issue of camper vans parking in the car park at the promenade in Strandhill and other matters pertaining to community use of the car park. The proposal to charge for parking in the car parks at Strandhill will be removed from any future bye-laws which may be adopted.”
In Response Mr T. Kilfeather DOS asked that any further decision on the Strandhill parking bye laws be deferred until further consultation has taken place.
Following a discussion it was;

“That this Council accepts Mr Tom Kilfeather’s recommendation and report to defer taking any decision on the Strandhill parking bye laws pending further consultationâ€.
Proposed by Councillor J. Leonard
Seconded by Councillor P. BarryAND AGREED
“That the Council of Sligo Parking Place Bye Laws 2008 (Rossespoint, Mullaghmore) be adopted pursuant to section 36 of the road traffic act, 1994â€.
Proposed by Councillor D. Healy McGowan
Seconded by Councillor A. HigginsAND AGREED
“To defer a decision on the Bye-Laws for Strandhill pending further consultation with the community “.

20. PLAYGROUND FOR STRANDHILL VILLAGE;
Proposed by Councillor D. Healy McGowan
Seconded by Councillor S. MacManus“To ask the County Manager; that this Council seek to provide a playground for Strandhill villageâ€.
In Response Mr M. Carty SEE stated the following;
“Sligo County Council is in dialogue with the Strandhill/Coolera Sports and Community Development Group to achieve dedicated facilities for the area. Playground facilities can be considered as part of the proposal. Currently no Council funding has been allocated for such a facilityâ€.
Ms R. McNulty, DOS stated that grants were no longer available for the provision of playgrounds and that local action would be helpful in relation to the provision of a site.
